My Review of a 4 x 8 and a 2 x 8 Raised Garden Bed

Well for someone that had never owed a raised garden bed before I didn’t know what to expect…

But I knew I needed a better way of controlling the critters in my yard.

And make my garden bed look more clean and stylish. So I did some research and a raised garden bed is what I came up with.

They had so many to choose from so I picked the one that best suit my needs I looked at like 101 of them…

So I ordered two  4 x 8 raised garden beds…raised garden bed 4 x 8 review

They shipped in less than a week and they were very easy to assemble and didn’t take that much time at all.

The ends and all the pieces fit together very smooth I didn’t have any trouble…raised beds 4 x 8 review

I decided to stain my raised garden beds green to match my house colors.

Also to protect the wood from the elements a little more.raised garden bed liner

Before I filled up my new raised garden I also lined the inside and bottoms of the wood with a raised garden bed liner.

I used a staple gun to secure the liner to the raised bed all the way around

…I also put a wire mesh underneath to keep out raised garden bed kitmoles and such.

There is a lot of different ways to set up raised garden beds.

With all different kinds of drainage options..

Placing the long side facing south so you get equal light across all of your plants.

On and on it goes I just wanted to keep it as simple as possible.

I proceeded to fill the raised garden beds to just about the top…

…It took about a cubic yard of soil/compost for each one. A good amount of dirt…so I had a truck deliver a bunch of it.

After that I was off and planting.

My back didn’t hurt as much anymore after gardening…

You can mix and match different types of soil/compost…

So many different options to choose from. I try different ones every year.

Its alot easier to manage and take care of I think…

I am very pleased with the raised garden beds so I decided to order yet another raised garden bed but this time a little smaller because of space.

So this time I went with the 2 x 8 raised garden bed.raised garden bed plans

This garden bed was the same just more slender and easy to get at both sides of it…

Just like the first two I lined it with some raised bed liner filled it and was good to go…

I wrapped this garden bed with chicken wire for more protection from critters.

I have had them for a couple years now and I swear my tomatoes are bigger and better than ever…

After all was said and done I am very happy with my purchase of my  4 x 8 and 2 x 8 raised garden beds.raised garden beds for sale

So here are what some other people are saying about raised garden beds…

I purchased 3 of these raised beds in the summer of 2014 and even after going through 2 pretty tough RI winters they still look great. They were easy to put together and so far have held up very well. Some reviews have stated that the boards are very rough and that is true but for us that really hasn’t been an issue. A couple of boards were also a bit warped but not enough to cause us any real concern and not enough to make us want to return them. So far I have successfully grown tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, summer squash, cantaloupe, watermelon and a variety of herbs. I tried growing corn in one of the beds but the ears that formed were stunted so I won’t try it again. Everyone who comes over to our house comments on how nice the raised beds look. If I had more sunny areas in my yard I’d buy a few more. Update: Just about done with winter #3 and they still look great. They have held up exceptionally well through 3 growing seasons and it looks like this summer will be no different.

Really good product, does not bend or budge in spite of being thin. Good boxes, currently growing my fall crops in these raised boxes. They are nice and solid and look beautiful in my net houses.

I’m a DIY type & when I was looking into setting up our garden I priced out lumber & hardware, then accounted for actual time (and potential frustration) of putting something like this together myself. This still came in lower by my estimation, though the hand built option may have had better material. End of the day I weighed all the reviews I was seeing & decided I was alright with most of what I saw. Similar planters are 2-3X more expensive after all.
I purchased two planters & was able to assemble both completely in around a half hour total. Some panels have warped, but I don’t mind that & kind of like the way it looks. One of the top caps split when I was screwing it on, but I was able to fix that easily with some wood glue. The boxes look rough & unfinished, but again I’m okay with that. Overall, they serve their purpose & I don’t mind an imperfect slightly rustic look. They’ve been in place 8-9 months now & I’m happy with how they’re doing.
If you want perfect, pristine, professional looking planters, these are not for you at all & you’re going to have to spend more to be happy.
If you don’t mind imperfections & are looking more for a simple solution for your garden, this is the right choice.
